Custom Kitchens in Cambridge
Custom kitchens for Cambridge homes in Galt, Preston, Hespeler and the newer neighbourhoods around them, designed and built in our Guelph shop about half an hour north and installed by our own crew under one contract.
Kitchens for every part of Cambridge.
Cambridge was formed in 1973 from Galt, Preston and Hespeler, and each still has its own older core. The kitchen a house needs often depends on which one it sits in.
Galt
Galt grew up along the Grand River, and its older streets are known for their stone buildings and solid brick homes. Kitchens in these houses are often small and set apart from the dining room, with thick walls and ceilings that are rarely level, so cabinetry has to be built to the room as it really is.
Preston
Preston's older neighbourhoods mix early brick houses with the bungalows and storey and a half homes built after the war. Those kitchens are often compact galleys, and opening a wall to the living space is usually the change that makes the biggest difference.
Hespeler
Hespeler has a historic village core surrounded by much newer subdivisions. The older homes need the careful fitting that century houses always do, while the newer ones usually have the space for an island and just need the builder grade cabinets replaced.
A Guelph cabinet shop, a Cambridge kitchen.
Busato Custom Woodworking is a cabinet shop and a renovation company under one roof, based on Johnston Street in Guelph. For a Cambridge kitchen, our crew comes to your home to measure and plan, the cabinetry is designed and milled in the Guelph shop, and the same crew returns to install it, along with the demolition, trades, flooring, tile and trim.
That matters in older Cambridge homes most of all. Walls that lean and floors that slope are measured by the people who will build and fit the cabinets, so doors hang straight and counters sit level even when the house does not. You see the finished kitchen as a 3D perspective and sign off before anything is cut.

From a closed kitchen to an open main floor.
This is the kind of project many older Cambridge kitchens call for: the old room taken back to the subfloor and rebuilt. Here is one we built, before and after, with the cabinetry made in our Guelph shop.

Planning a kitchen renovation in Cambridge.
These are settled early, before the design is signed off.
Permits from the City of Cambridge
Replacing cabinets and counters in the same layout usually needs no permit. Removing or altering a wall, or moving plumbing or gas, generally needs a building permit from the City of Cambridge.
Heritage homes
Some older Cambridge properties carry a heritage designation. Interior kitchen work is usually unaffected, but anything touching the exterior, such as a new window, is worth checking with the city first.
Older structure
Before a wall comes out in an older house, it has to be confirmed whether it carries load and what runs through it. In Galt's stone homes, exterior walls are thick and need planning around, not through.
Pricing a Cambridge kitchen.
A Cambridge kitchen is priced the same way as every kitchen we build: one fixed scope, agreed after the consultation and the 3D design, so the number stops moving once you have signed off. Our kitchens are usually part of main floor renovations, which typically run from $50,000 to $200,000 depending on how much of the floor changes.

Cambridge kitchen questions.
What Cambridge homeowners ask before they start, answered plainly.
Do you build kitchens in Galt, Preston and Hespeler?
Yes. We work across Cambridge, including Galt, Preston, Hespeler and the newer neighbourhoods between them. All of it sits within the area most of our projects fall in.
Do I need a permit for a kitchen renovation in Cambridge?
Not for replacing cabinets, counters and finishes in the same layout. Removing or altering a wall, or moving plumbing or gas, generally needs a building permit from the City of Cambridge, and the project is planned around what it requires from the start.
Can you fit custom cabinets in an older house with uneven walls?
Yes, and it is where custom cabinetry earns its keep. The room is measured as it really is, the cabinets are built to those measurements in our shop, and they are scribed to the walls and levelled on site so the finished kitchen looks straight.
How is a Cambridge kitchen priced?
From one fixed scope, agreed after we have measured your kitchen and you have signed off on the 3D design. Our kitchens are usually part of main floor renovations that typically run from $50,000 to $200,000, depending on how much of the floor changes.
